Inconel alloys are oxidation and corrosion resistant materials well suited for service in extreme environments subjected to pressure and heat. When heated, Inconel forms a thick, stable, passivating oxide layer protecting the surface from further attack. Inconel retains strength over a wide temperature range, attractive for high temperature applications where aluminum and steel would succumb to creep as a result of thermally induced crystal vacancies. Inconel's high temperature strength is developed by solid solution strengthening or precipitation hardening, depending on the alloy.
Incoloy A-286 is age-hardenable, iron-nickel-chromium superalloy appropriate for applications that require high tensile strength, oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance. Incoloy A-286 has high strength and corrosion resistance for temperatures up to 1300 °F (704 °C) and oxidation resistance up to 1800 °F (982 °C).
Alloy A-286 is designed for applications requiring high strength and good corrosion resistance at temperatures up to 1300 °F(704 °C). This alloy offers high ductility in notched sections. In fact, the notched rupture strength of alloy A-286 is superior to many other commercial alloys with comparable high temperature properties
An advantage of this alloy is that it can be precipitation hardened and strengthened by heat treatments. This makes possible a high degree of uniformity in developing maximum strength, which can be duplicated application after application.
